The second-hand marketplace Users Express Displeasure Regarding Sizing Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to products showing incorrect sizing.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category than originally posted because of the remapping.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and update the measurements by hand if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Changes
Earlier, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, from Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million users, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: previously, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
